Viewing on the Russian River and upper Kenai River -- This is the only viewing site in the region to which one can drive. The only costs are the expenses of driving and a parking fee of about $20/vehicle/day. Viewing is good only when salmon are running up this stretch of river -- something which normally has just begun by the 3rd week of June. So likelihood of spotting bears here iis not high. * Cooper Landing,
Viewing in Prince William Sound -- where Olsen Creek is the best viewing site, but not at this time of year. * Whittier (via the road from the Portage train station) * Cordova (a full day's drive from Anchorage) * Valdez (a full day's drive from Anchorage)
Viewing in Resurrection Bay -- Ialic Bay where black bears can be seen, but are very shy of viewers. Reaching this bay requires a long trip by float-plane or by boat over waters which are often rough enough to make most people seasick. * Seward (Resurrection Bay)
